DESCRIPTION

Our Clinical Training Program: At On the Margins (OTM), our clinical training program seeks to develop knowledgeable, systemic, culturally sensitive, ethical, anti-racist, and trauma-informed Marriage and Family Therapists, Professional Clinical Counselors, Social Workers, and Psychologists.

About On the Margins: We are a community mental health organization dedicated to collaborating on the design and implementation of anti-racist, joy-focused, sustainable, and affirming practices, driven by love, commitment, political action, and freedom dreaming.

  • Our Team: We are a collective of health professionals, artists, researchers, and consultants dedicated to working at the intersection of feminism, anti-racism, and trauma-responsiveness.

Our Commitment: In collaboration with others, we actively work to dismantle white-supremacist, heteropatriarchal, cisnormative, mono-normative, and colonial practices within educational, healthcare, research, and community settings. We are inspired by the work of BIPOC scholars, feminists, freedom fighters, community organizers, and abolitionists.

Our Clinical Team: Our clinical team includes Licensed Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, as well as Doctoral Interns, Associate-level and clinical trainees.

  • As a vital member of the OTM clinical team, you will deliver impactful trauma-informed and culturally responsive therapy services in diverse settings – both in-person and virtually. You will have the opportunity to work with individuals of all ages (children, teens, and adults), couples, and families, as well as facilitate group therapy and provide crucial crisis intervention support. Your work will reach clients in urban centers and rural communities throughout the Bay and Sonoma Counties, including areas like Petaluma, Santa Rosa, Cloverdale, and Sonoma Valley, requiring travel within these regions.

Beyond direct therapy, you will play a key role in collaborative case management, working to assess client needs, develop comprehensive care plans, connect individuals with essential services, and advocate for their well-being. You will also contribute to the smooth functioning of our clinical services through diligent chart review, detailed progress note writing, effective coordination of community resources, active engagement in ongoing training, and valuable consultation with fellow professionals.

  • Who We Serve: We center the experiences of clients frequently pushed to the margins of society. This includes, but is not limited to, BIPOC individuals, Queer individuals, Spanish-speaking individuals, and those with undocumented or DACAmented status.

We prioritize candidates with demonstrated experience and sensitivity in working with womxn, femmes, gender non-conforming, intersex, nonbinary individuals, and all members of the LGBTQIA2+ community.

  • We are seeking exceptional clinicians who demonstrate a deep commitment to cultural sensitivity, humility, and social justice, and who create safe and affirming therapeutic spaces for diverse clients.

We are particularly interested in clinicians experienced in working with individuals who identify as Queer, Trans, BIPOC, bilingual/bicultural, immigrant, or first-generation. We welcome applications from clinicians in training who possess a strong understanding of the unique challenges and strengths within these communities.

Ideal candidates are committed to reflective practice and continuous learning, striving to enhance their skills and remain at the forefront of culturally humble care.

  • On the Margins utilizes an integrative model of supervision for its trainees. This means that our approach to guiding and developing our team members draws upon multiple theoretical orientations and techniques rather than adhering strictly to a single supervisory framework.

We believe that no single theory of supervision can fully address the diverse needs and learning styles of our supervisees, nor the complex challenges they encounter while working with the communities we serve. Therefore, our supervisors are trained to be flexible and adaptable, drawing upon a range of perspectives to best support individual growth and skill development.

    • Develop knowledgeable, systemic, integrative, and trauma-informed mental health practitioners.

    • Cultivate culturally humble entry-level therapists with a strong multicultural perspective and self-awareness.

    • Foster the professional identity of future Marriage and Family Therapists, Professional Clinical Counselors, Social Workers, and Psychologists.
